You have a great list here! I'll bet you save tons of money by making your own snacks. I've borrowed a friend's dehydrator and have been drying tomato slices this summer. The idea is to save them for later in the year (covered in olive oil, they keep for a long time, and are wonderful on pasta) but I do find myself snacking on them before I get them in the jars :) I've also had good luck making homemade granola and granola-type energy bars (with oatmeal, honey, peanut butter, etc.) They make good breakfasts for my one son who loves to escape the house in the morning without eating.

Jennifer - I slice the fruit pretty thin because it dries faster, but if you cut it too thin it won't want to come off of the trays without breaking. Mine are probably between 1/8 and 1/4 inch thick. Sorry I can't be more specific...I've never actually measured it! :) It usually takes about 8 hours to dry, depending on the fruit.

I have a dehydrator but I haven't used it in a long time. How big/small do you cut your fruit and how long do you dehydrate it for? Do you put anything on it? Thank you!! :)

I have been looking for a good granola recipe to make. I love granola bars and when I find the right recipe I'm going to try to make my own. BTW, those are all great ideas for snacks!

I am just now venturing into the healthy, homemade snacks. You already have this, but I have found simple things like carrot sticks and fruit already prepared help a lot. This also tells me if they are really hungry... If I hear "can I have a fruit snack?" one more time, I'm going to scream. But, if I offer them carrots instead and they say no, I know they are just testing me.. :)

I started making granola bars this summer. There are lots of recipes online, I like chewy granola bars with dried fruit and nuts mixed in. These are hearty enough to eat for breakfast-on-the-go, which used to be much more expensive for me!
