Super Savings Saturday – 8/29/09
Posted by Admin on Aug 29th, 2009
My plan to pack all the shopping into one day this week didn’t go as planned. I ended up going to Dillon’s with just Ava on Sunday, CVS and Walgreens on Monday with the whole family and Walmart and Aldi on Tuesday with just me and the kids. So three days of shopping instead of one. Oy. Maybe that’s just the way it’s going to be at this season in my life, though. It seems easier on the kids to just do a little bit of shopping at a time, but I wish we could get it all done at once so we could have those other days for other activities. I guess I’ll just have to keep shooting to get as much done in a day as we can and see how things go.
Anyway, here’s how our shopping went this week.
I got some amazing deals at Dillon’s with their Mega-Sale! With the Mega-Sale, you get $5 off for every 10 participating items that you buy…so $0.50 off each item. I bought 40 Mega-Sale items, so I got $20 off. So when I do the breakdown, I’ll put the amount that the sale saved me and I’ll just put (MS) for Mega-Sale after it, so you’ll know what I mean.

- 2 Old El Paso Taco Shells
1.49 x 2 = 2.98 – 0.60 Shortcuts coupon – 1.00 (MS) = 1.38 or 0.69 each - 5 Nature Valley Granola Bars
2.87 x 5 = 14.35 – 0.40 Cellfire coupon – 0.40 Shortcuts coupon – three 0.40/1 coupons doubled to 0.80 – one 0.70/2 coupon doubled to 1.00 – 2.50 (MS) = 7.65 or 1.53 each (and I got a 3.50 catalina back!) - 2 Trix cereals
2.49 x 2 = 4.98 – 0.55 cellfire coupon – 0.55 shortcuts coupon – two 0.55 coupons doubled to 1.00 – 1.00 (MS) = 0.88 or 0.44 each - 5 Fruit Shapes
2.49 x 5 = 12.45 – 0.40 Cellfire coupon – 0.40 Shortcuts coupon – five 0.40 coupons doubled to 0.80 – 2.50 (MS) = 5.15 or 1.03 each (and I got a 3.50 catalina back!) - 16 Sobe Lifewaters
1.00 x 16 = 16.00 – 2 BOGO coupons (2.00) – 8.00 (MS) = 6.00 or 0.37 each - 5 Yoplait Trix Yogurts
2.39 x 5 = 11.95 – 0.80 Cellfire coupon – 0.80 Shortcuts coupon – four 0.40 coupons doubled to 0.80 – one 0.50 coupon doubled to 1 – 2.50 (MS) = 3.65 or 0.73 each - 5 Diet Vanilla Pepsi
1.38 x 5 = 6.90 – 2.50 (MS) = 4.40 or 0.88 each
Total w/ tax: 31.52; Total savings: 56.23 (66%!!) And I also got $7 in catalinas back!
I used my catalinas towards my newspapers:
- 4 newspapers
1.86 x 4 = 7.44 – 7.00 catalinas = 0.99 with tax
Here’s the items we got on Monday at CVS and Walgreens:

At CVS, things did not go quite as planned. They were out of some items and other items weren’t priced as low as I thought they were. So it was not a trip I’m especially proud of, but here it is anyway.
Transaction #1
- 2 Poise Liners
2.00 x 2 = 4.00 – two 2.00 coupons = 0.00 - 1 Carefree Liners
3.79 – 1.00 coupon = 2.79 - - 1.99 ECB from last week
Total w/ tax: 1.38; Total savings: 8.37
Received 3.79 ECB’s back!
Transaction #2:
- 2 Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascaras
7.49 x 2 = 14.98 – 3.74 (Buy 1, Get 1 50% sale) – two $2/1 coupons – 1.00 CVS coupon = 6.24 - - 3.79 ECB from Tran #1
Total w/ tax: 3.28; Total savings: 12.54
No ECB from this transaction
So I spent 4.66 and saved 20.91. I was disappointed that I burned all my ECB’s, though. If they’d had items I needed in stock, that wouldn’t have happened.
Things went better at Walgreens, but their Register Rewards machine was broken, which messed up my total out-of-pocket. Monday was just not my day!!
Transaction #1:
- 2 Listerine Smart Rinses
4.00 x 2 = 8.00 – BOGO coupon (4.00) – 1.00 coupon – two 1.00/1 coupons from Activity Book = 1.00 or 0.50 each
Total w/ tax: 1.30; Total savings: 10.58.
Will receive $3.00 RR’s
Transaction #2:
- 2 Children’s Benadryls
4.99 x 2 = 9.98 – two 1.00 coupons – two 1.00 coupons from Activity Book = 5.98 or2.99 each
Total w/ tax: 6.57; Total savings: 8.00
Will receive $5 RR’s
So I spent 7.87 and saved 18.58. And I’ll get $8 in RR’s.
And finally, here’s our picture on Tuesday, with our Walmart and Aldi items (these items totaled 34.71):

At Aldi, they were having a one-day sale on hot dog buns for 0.10 per package! If I had more freezer space, I would have bought a lot more than 3! We spent a total of 22.42 at Aldi.
At Walmart, I didn’t use any coupons, but only spent 12.29.
For the whole shopping trip, we spent $78.37 and saved $102.72!!!!
