Super Savings Saturday – 8/15/09

Posted by Admin on Aug 15th, 2009

It’s been awhile since I shared my grocery shopping trips with all of you!  I normally shop on Monday, but instead of sharing it earlier in the week like I normally do, I’ve decided to schedule the post for Saturday, so I can participate in Super Savings Saturday!

Here we go…

On Sunday, I ran to Dillon’s and only got newspapers.

  • 4 newspapers
    1.86 x 4 = 7.99 with tax

At Dillon’s on Monday, I got:

  • Ground beef
    1.77/lb x 2.82 lbs = 4.99
  • Green beans
    0.99/lb x 2.11 lbs = 2.08
  • Cantaloupe
    1.67
  • 2 Chiquita Apple Bites
    0.49 x 2 = 0.98 – two $1/1 coupons = FREE with 1.02 overage
  • 2 Chiquita Pineapple Bites
    1.00 x 2 = 2.00 – two Free Product peelies = FREE
  • 1 Nature Valley Granola Bars
2.87 – Free Product Coupon (from mailer) = FREE
  • 1 Fiber One Granola Bars
3.25 – Free Product Coupon (from mailer) = FREE
  • 2 Coffee Mate Creamers
    2.00 x 2 = 4.00 – one $1/1 coupon = 3.00 or 1.50 each
  • 4 Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
    2.29 x 4 = 9.16 – two $0.50/1 coupons doubled to $1.00 = 7.16 or 1.79 each
  • 1 Sobe Lifewater
    1.00 – Free Product Coupon = FREE

Total w/ tax: 19.79; Total savings: 20.51

It should have been about $5 less because I thought the Crescent Rolls I was getting were only $1 each, but apparently they weren’t the ones on sale (and I just realized that now).

Also at Dillon’s, I cashed some WIC checks and got the following items for free (not pictured):

  • 1 lb baby carrots
  • 4 boxes Life cereal
  • 2 lbs cheese
  • 2 dozen eggs
  • 4 cans of juice concentrate
  • 4.5 gallons of milk
  • 2 cans of tuna

At CVS, I got:

  • 2 jumbo packs Huggies diapers
    9.00 x 2 = 18.00 – two $1.50/1 coupons = 15.00 or 7.50 each
  • 1 Sharpie Accent Hi-Liters
    0.99 – $1/1 coupon = FREE with 0.01 overage
  • - 0.50 ECB

Total w/ tax: 15.87; Total savings: 12.68
Spent $0.50 in ECB’s and received 4.00 back!

Since the only thing I paid for was diapers, it came out of the money we budget for the kids’ needs, not the grocery money.  So I won’t be counting that in the final total at the end of the post.

Right now, CVS is also giving everyone a free gift the first time you use your store card in August and the toothbrush was my gift.  :)

My next stop was HyVee:

  • 7 HyVee Yogurt Cups
    0.37 x 7 = 2.59
  • 4 HyVee Butter quarters
    1.38 x 4 = 5.52
  • 4 HyVee Sugars (4 lbs)
    1.68 x 4 = 6.72
  • 4 Coke Zeros (2 L)
    1.00x x 4 = 4.00
  • 1 Seedless Watermelon
    2.88
  • 1 package Jelly Bellies (not pictured unless you count the pile and the Ava-hand at the edge of the picture)
    1.55

Total w/ tax: 24.99; Total savings: I estimate it’s about $8 (HyVee doesn’t calculate savings on their receipts)

At Aldi, we spent $34.01.

At Walmart, we spent 15.35 and saved $4.  Here’s what I used coupons on:

  • 2 Vaseline Lotion, trial-size
    0.97 x 2 = 1.94 – two $1/1 coupons = FREE with overage of 0.06!
  • 2 Dentek Floss Picks, 30-ct
    1.00 x 2 = 2.00 – two $1/1 coupon = FREE

For the whole shopping trip, we spent $102.13 and saved $32.51…that’s a savings of 32%!!!!
