Budget-Style Baby Shower – Invitations

Posted by Admin on Aug 12th, 2009

One of my best friends is having her first son next month and I’m so excited to be able to throw her a baby shower!  She threw one for me when I was pregnant with Kelvin, so it’s nice to be able to return the favor.  And more importantly,  to just celebrate a new baby coming into the world!

As with any party, baby shower expenses can add up fast!  There’s invitations, decorations, food, cake, and of course the gifts!  Luckily, another friend has offered to throw the shower with me, which is awesome.

I’ve been doing a little research online and a lot of brainstorming and it’s definitely possible to have a very nice, memorable baby shower without breaking the bank.  After all, the more money we save on the baby shower, the more money we can put into the gifts!  I’m sure any Mama-to-be would love that!!  I’m going to be doing a series of posts showing you how to throw an amazing baby shower, budget-style!  I’d love to have you follow along with me here!

The first thing we have to do is send out invitations.

I was planning on picking up a couple boxes of baby shower invitations at Walmart, but I decided to look around online a little bit first.  I was able to find a variety of super-cute printable invitations here for FREE!!  And if you don’t like any of those, there are many more sites you can visit.  Just Google “printable baby shower invitations”.

I’m pretty sure that the invitations we picked out are way cuter than the ones I would have gotten from Walmart and they are practically free.  Just a few pennies for card stock and printer toner…and postage would have been part of the equation either way.

Any tips on saving money on baby shower invitations?  Please leave me a comment!

  1. If you like playing around computer graphics programs (eg. Photoshop, Gimp, etc). Make your own design! And especially if you are good with it, you can almost make as professional and as nice looking (or better) compared with the ones online.

A lot of times, I look online and if I don’t see one card design I like, but a bunch of things I like from different cards, I get those ideas from each card themes and designs I like, and then I incorporate all of them onto one and make my own design.

All you need is your computer, your graphics software, card stock (they even have blank card stock that already have the envelopes to go with it!), envelopes, printer, and optional embellishments (eg. ribbons, stickers, vellum overlay, photo paper, etc). The possibilities are endless!

  2. That’s a good idea, Laurie! You’re way better at that kind of stuff than I am, though…I get pretty overwhelmed trying to mess around with photo software.
